PAPYRUS ,is the material which kept the secrets of ancient Egypt. They used papyrus for writing, in addition to writing on stone .

 

Read on to know how papyrus is made:

 
1) The payrus plant grows in the fresh Nile water, It has long roots and stems. The ancient Egyptians used its stems to make mats,baskets & of cource papyrus .

2) The outer green skin is taken off then the internal part is cut into thin strips, the slices hummered to squezed water, Then the strips are left in water for 6 days till they become transparent and flexible.

3) The strips are then cut to the required length , then placed between two pieces of cotton horizontally and vertically and then press them . the cardboard is changed every 8 hours till its completely dry. over a period of 6 days.

4) Now it's ready to be used for painting, writing, drawing or printing.
